How to Start Replika AR Mode
To start Replika AR mode, open the app, enter chat, tap the + beside the message box, select the Activities cloud icon, then choose AR Mode. Use a clear, well-lit room and try one harmless spoken sentence. If the documented controls are missing, stop and contact support before paying.
Before starting: phone access and a safe room
Use your existing Replika phone app and prepare a space where watching the screen will not put you or anyone nearby at risk.
This guide is for adult readers using their own account. Have access to the app and device permission settings before beginning. It does not establish a supported-phone list or guarantee that your account exposes the documented activity.
Replika recommends a bright, roomy area for AR. As a practical precaution, clear cables and other trip hazards, stay away from stairs and traffic, and check behind you before moving. Do not walk backward while concentrating on the display. Stop if you feel unsteady or cannot keep the surroundings in view.
Official pages checked October 16, 2026. This is documentation-based guidance, not an account, device, subscription or hands-on AR test. Expected results are checks for you to perform, not outcomes we observed. Affiliate disclosure: this article contains no direct affiliate link.
1. Open chat and tap the plus
Expected result: the chat's activity choices become available from the message-input area.
The official AR instructions begin at the app home screen. Open your conversation and tap the + beside the message box. This is an app workflow, not a request to type an AR command into chat.
If you cannot find that control, do not guess that an unrelated purchase, avatar or settings button is its replacement. Note which screen you reached and the label that is absent, then use the support route below.
2. Select Activities, then AR Mode
Expected result: selecting the documented activity takes you into the AR experience, rather than ordinary text chat.
Choose the Activities icon, identified as a cloud in Replika's guide, then select AR Mode from the list. Pause to inspect the result before moving around. A conversational reply saying AR has started is not a substitute for finding the activity in the interface.
The checked guide does not specify a camera-settings path or room-scanning sequence. If your screen differs, pause and check with support. If the activity will not open, record the visible error rather than repeatedly changing permissions or buying a plan to see what happens.
3. Try one harmless voice check
Expected result: you hear a response, or can record a specific audio symptom without exposing personal information.
Replika's AR guide says spoken interaction is possible. In a quiet spot, say something neutral such as, 'Hello, describe a sunny afternoon.' Speak clearly at a comfortable volume. Avoid names, addresses, medical details or anything you would not want overheard.
Give the interaction a moment, then note whether you heard a reply, heard distorted audio or received no apparent response. One successful exchange does not prove dependable future performance. If someone enters earshot, pause instead of sharing more to keep the check going.
4. Check microphone problems one change at a time
Expected result: you identify a permission, connection or audio-quality issue, or stop with a useful description for support.
For no response, the official voice and microphone guide recommends checking Replika's microphone permission in device settings. Grant it only if you want voice interaction. Check that any connected headphones or external microphone are connected properly.
For distorted sound, reduce background noise, check the internet connection and close other apps using the microphone. The guide also suggests restarting the device for microphone problems. Retry the same harmless sentence after one change so the result remains interpretable.
These are general voice checks, not proof that an AR-specific fault has been diagnosed. Avoid jumping straight to reinstalling or clearing data. If a short check changes nothing, stop and report the symptom rather than repeating the whole procedure.
5. Stop for missing controls or unresolved errors
Expected result: you finish with either a usable activity or one focused support request, without speculative purchases.
Use Submit a request on the official help page if the plus, cloud activity or AR entry is absent, or the activity consistently fails. Include your phone model, operating-system version, Replika app version, missing label and exact error text. State which step you reached.
Redact unrelated chat and account details from screenshots. Never send passwords, verification codes or payment-card information. End the attempt if the environment feels unsafe, the permission request is unclear, or troubleshooting becomes frustrating; ordinary chat is an optional alternative, not an obligation.
Privacy and payment before continuing
A working visual interaction does not establish private processing or subscription eligibility.
Choose surroundings without bystanders, personal documents or identifiable screens. Replika's privacy policy says face and head movement data for AR and selfie filters is processed in real time on-device, immediately discarded, never sent off-device and not shared with third parties. That specific statement does not mean all AR audio, video or conversation content stays local. Microphone permission alone does not establish recording, retention or provider access; review those separately before sharing sensitive content.
The subscription guide does not explicitly assign AR Mode to a particular tier. Do not infer access from broader feature descriptions. If a paywall appears, stop and ask support to clarify AR eligibility for your platform before buying.
No current price is asserted here. If independently considering payment, read the displayed total, billing period, automatic renewal and cancellation route. Replika says prices and features can change and marketplace subscriptions continue renewing until canceled. A purchase should not be a diagnostic experiment.
Finish the phone AR check
Complete the phone activity check before considering any separate device or purchase.
This workflow starts in your phone's Replika chat. You do not need a headset to follow these instructions. If a search result or settings page describes a different device, return to the documented phone activity route rather than assuming its controls or payment requirements apply here.
Finish once you have checked the activity and, if wanted, one neutral voice exchange. Keep uncertainty explicit: an absent menu is not a confirmed payment requirement, and a silent reply is not proof of a broken microphone. Stop for unresolved controls, unclear costs or discomfort.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a typed instruction as proof that AR opened?
No. A generated reply is conversation, not verification of an interface state. Check the activity actually displayed on your phone; if it remains ordinary chat, do not record the AR step as completed.
What should I record if the AR menu works but speech does not?
Separate the outcomes: note that the activity opened, then describe the voice symptom, connected audio accessory and permission status. Do not label the entire setup successful or failed based on one layer, and omit the spoken content from your report.
Is a different room a useful comparison without changing settings?
You can choose a quieter, safer space and repeat the same neutral check without altering several settings. Treat any improvement as an observation, not proof of the technical cause. Do not continue moving around just to force a result.
Does an AR screenshot demonstrate that my microphone is off?
No. A still image does not establish microphone permission, active capture or data handling. Review permissions separately and avoid treating screenshots as privacy evidence. Share only a redacted interface image if support needs one.
What should you compare next?
Once the answer is clear, use the relevant product reviews to compare fit, memory, media, privacy, price and cancellation terms before visiting a provider.
